Hello Vasanti,
First of all congratulation on your acomplishment. I read your Blog’s and was quite interested in learning a lot on your way of prepartion for your Channel Triathlon. Great idea. I had a comparable idea last year, without knowledge of your attempt.
Sadly I read about the end of your last years trial. It’s great that you are sticking to your goals. I wish you good luck and great experiences during your preparation phase and I’m confident that you’ll make it form Dover to Heidelberg!
Have fun in Zurich.
I’m preparing for my first attempt to swim the Channel this year first tide -end of June. Hope to learn a little bit from your experience -great that your writing this BLOG.
If you find time pl. answer the following two questions:
– You mentioned a forum where channel swimmers interchange information. What is the way to get access to this forum?
– Your BLOG is that nicely configurated – What software are you using to set it up?
Thanks
Peter
Hi Peter,
thanks for your kind words. I am happy if there is some helpful information on the blog. The format is simply “blogspot” – you can register for free and choose your design and add fotos. This one is WordPress, recommended by a friend, but I still have to learn how to work with it. It is a bit more flexible I think.
Re Channel group: pls. go to the CS&PF website: http://www.channelswimming.net/ and mail to Mike Oram to please give you access to the chat group. His e-mail: michael.oram@btinternet.com.
On the chat group the best thing befor asking questions that have been asked a 1000 times, is to use the search function and check the answers you can find, also on the website. Of course people are very willing to answer questions anyway.
One big recommendation – I don`t know your speed, but anyway: Take acclimatisation and putting on weight very seriously. My fault last year was, I thought I could cope with the temperature without putting on more weight, but it was colder than I expected and I had not done my ice-baths at home like in 1985. And be mentally prepared to stay in longer than you would think. The swim starts at the point, where your longest training swim ended. So also try to do a VERY long training swim before – not just 6 or 7 hours (unless you can do the Channel in 10 hours or under).
All the best!
